

Born in Medina on April 9, 1921, he was the son the late Norman and Myrtle (Lampman) Oliver.
Eugene grew up in Medina, graduating from Medina High School in 1940. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was stationed in Georgia. In 1945, he married Elsie (Munson) Oliver of Niagara Falls (deceased 1981). Together they built, owned and operated the Skate-A-Date Roller Rink from 1949-1968. He was employed by the FMC Corporation, from which he retired in 1986. He remarried in 1983 to Ruthe (Powley) Oliver (deceased 2009).
Eugene was very proud of his community of Medina. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and a Trustee. He provided initial funding for the Lake Plains Dialysis Center. He was also a major donor for the Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Suite and Therapeutic Rehabilitation Gym at Medina Memorial Hospital. He strongly supported the youth of Medina and donated the seed money for the skate boarding facilities at Butts Park on S. Main St. Medina. Eugene established a scholarship fund for Medina students to attend college.
Eugene is survived by his four children, Dennis (Libby), Chris (Paul), Kathleen (Richard), all residing in California, Norma Jean (Brian) of Medina, six grandsons, four great-grandsons, a sister, Beatrice (Oliver) Wilder of Amherst, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Eugene always had a curiosity about life. He was always reading, learning new things. He had many interests and hobbies, including aviation, woodcarving and stamp collecting. He was slow to judge and quick to forgive. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his integrity, generosity and humor. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 4-7 PM at the Bates &Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Medina, NY. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23, at 11:00 am at THE First Baptist Church, 203 W. Center St. Medina, NY, with Pastor Michael Stephenson officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
