ADELINE “Swifty” SMITHWICK, 91, of Memphis, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 after a long illness. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lt. Col. Fred Smithwick, USAF, Ret., her brother, Ross Mathews (Nancy), and her parents, Ross and Emily Mathews. She is survived by her children Emily Traylor (Mike), Fred Smithwick III (Sheila) and Sallie Turner, all of Memphis, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. While accompanying her husband to 5 countries and 10 states, she hunted deer and wild boar in Bavaria, attended bullfights in Madrid and vacationed on the French and Spanish Riveria. They returned to Memphis to retire. She enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends with whom she played bridge. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m.. Sunday, September 7 and funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, all at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Ave. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown.
