

Born on September 24, 1930, in Hughes, Arkansas, Alberta Cade was the cherished daughter of Galvester and Lovie Brownlee. A woman of unwavering faith and service, she was a devoted and foundational member of Greater Community Temple Church of God in Christ. Alberta served faithfully as a pulpit aide and was a beloved presence on the Usher Board, where she dutifully served until the age of 83.
Professionally, Alberta dedicated many years as a Veterinary Lab Technician at UT Hospital. Her remarkable commitment and compassion toward animals earned her a legacy, an award established in her honor by the hospital. Her love for animals extended beyond the workplace, as several became treasured family pets.
Alberta was preceded in death by her loving parents, Galvester and Lovie Brownlee; her brothers James Brownlee, Robert Brownlee, and Cal Brownlee; her sisters Dorothy Allen, Earline Gordon, Estella Green, Lee Davis, and her beloved twin sister Alma Jordan. She also mourned the loss of her sons Earl Wilson and, shortly after her own transition, Larry Wilson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her devoted children: daughters Martha Cook, Shirley Jones, Ethel Wilkins, Gladys Nickelberry, and Ella Roberts; and sons James Wilson, Roosevelt Nickelberry, and Calvin Cade. Her memory will also be cherished by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless loved ones whose lives she touched.
Alberta Cade’s life was one of grace, service, strength, and deep love. Her legacy of faith and family will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of generations to come.
A gathering of family and friends for Alberta will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Greater Community Temple COGIC, 5151 Winchester Rd, Memphis, TN 38118, followed by a funeral service at12:00 PM. Burial will be in Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange Road, Memphis, TN.
