Cora Avie Dickie Boyd, 86 of Memphis, TN passed away, August 4th, 2020, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN. Avie was born to General Jesse Dickie and Mary Etta Sanders Dickie on September 29th, 1933 in Albertville, AL. She graduated from Albertville High School in 1952. She moved to Atlanta, GA to work at Southern Bell Telephone in the Supply Department. She moved to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Church in 1955. She worked as a secretary for International Students Incorporated. While there she met Edward Lynn Boyd. On September 19th, 1959 they were married at Beulah Baptist Church in Albertville, AL.
Avie was active in her church, First Evangelical Church with various activities for many years. She was a Bible Study Fellowship leader for 17 years. She volunteered in the He Cares ministry to shut-ins. She served as a nursery school worker for several years after Brandon was born so she could be his teacher. She retired from the I.R.S. early so she could take care of Brandon so Nancy could go back to work. She was a part of the Monday morning prayer group for many years. She tutored two Korean children in her home for many years. She and her husband were active participants in the International Students group on the campus of the University of Memphis. They hosted many foreign students over the years, having them in their home for dinner many times.
She enjoyed taking care of her grandsons who made her proud. She watched them a lot and engaged them in educational activities. They have fond memories of her picking them up from school and taking them to her house. She always had good snacks for them to eat in the car.
Avie was preceded in death by her parents General Jesse Dickie and Mary Etta Sanders Dickie; siblings, Shelley Hoyt Dickie, Ralph G. Dickie, B.L. Dickie, Buford Shelton Dickie, Iva Florus “Flo” Dickie, Yancy Segers, Ruby Nell Dickie Goble and Jessie Van Dickie.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Lynn Boyd, her daughter Nancy Rynn Boyd Webb, her son-in-law Boyd Houston Webb III and her two grandsons Brandon Boyd Webb and Cameron Alan Webb.
Graveside services will be held on Friday August 7, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38134.
