Barbara Jean Waddell Muir died peacefully on January 15, 2025, at Trezevant Manor, Allen Morgan in Memphis, TN, nearly five years after having a major stroke. She was 80 years old, born on June 8, 1944.
Her family is so deeply saddened by her death.
Barbara is survived and missed by her loving husband William James Muir of 55 years and her children, Keelan Muir French, and her husband William, Brady Muir, and his wife Amy.
Forever cherished and remembered by her 9 grandchildren, Will, Kaylan, and Katherine French, as well as Ryan, Kendall, and Charles Muir. She also gained 3 additional grandchildren Joseph, Daniella and Luccas.
Barbara is predeceased by her father, Charles Waddell and mother Kathryn Stevens Waddell, and her brother David Waddell.
Her older sister Janice Waddell Bond currently resides in Little Rock, AR.
Barbara was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and grew up in Munhall, PA. She attended Munhall High School, class of 1962. Afterwards, she attended Kent State University and graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1966.
Barbara met her husband Bill Muir on a blind date, just like her parents. They were married on March 8, 1969, in Orlando, FL where they resided. Barbara was a 3rd grade schoolteacher at McCoy Elementary and their daughter, Keelan Margaret Muir, was born during their time in Florida.
Their second child arrived, Brady James Muir in July 1971, while Barbara and Bill were living in South Kingston, RI.
Due to Bill’s profession as a football coach, they had the pleasure of moving all over the country, from Dallas, TX, to Pocatello, ID, and Long Island, NY, to name a few.
They moved 16 times during Bill’s career and incredibly bought & sold 14 houses during that time. Barbara used that time to follow her passion of decorating homes.
As an adult, Barbara had two fascinating hobbies - traveling the world and playing the penny slots in Vegas!
Some of Barbara’s most memorable trips were to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary in Ireland with her entire family, as well as her 70th birthday celebration at the Bellagio in Las Vegas with her family. Followed by her escapades to Alaska, Europe and her time down under in Australia and New Zealand.
Barbara loved to volunteer in her community, especially with the Kansas City Chiefs Women’s Organization and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Women’s Organization.
Their main focus was breast cancer awareness and supporting children’s charities throughout their towns.
When her children were in school, you could always hear Barbara cheering on her children at their various sporting events like basketball, field hockey, football and baseball. She was a mom to ‘many' of her children's teammates and friends.
Barbara’s family and friends will be forever blessed with having such a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend in their lives.
A very heartfelt thank you, to the entire staff at Trezevant Manor, Allen Morgan. Your love and care for mom was unparalleled and we are forever grateful to you.
