Betty was born to the late Esley Davis and late Eunice Maebel Law Baker in Wynne, Arkansas on March 23, 1932. After graduating from Forest City High School in Arkansas, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she married Jack Walton and raised 3 children. A devoted wife and mother, Betty wholeheartedly depended on her faith in God to lead and guide her through every obstacle she encountered in life. Family and friends were Betty’s passion and she was never too busy to help anyone who needed it. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Bebe” and she soon became everyone’s Bebe, a name she felt honored and cherished to have.
She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Ann Stevens (Ron) and Jackie Bennett (Jerrel); grandchildren Jeremy (Krystal), Josh, Candace (James), Christy (Michael) and Eric; and great grandchild Selah, along with many other relatives. She will also be dearly missed by her long time friends at Crossroads United Methodist Church where she was a dedicated charter member and servant for many years, delivering fruit baskets to the sick and shut-ins, taking friends to appointments or church, and setting up the Chrismon tree in the sanctuary for Christmas. And lastly, she will certainly be missed by her fur baby of 14 years, Millie. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Jack Walton; son Steve Walton; brother Don Davis; step-father Lloyd Baker and grandson Matthew Stevens.
When Betty’s health took a significant turn three years ago, the family was brought even closer as Ann, Jackie, Jerrel and Ron began giving her full-time care and attention, allowing everyone to enjoy her cheerful presence on a regular basis.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Valley Hospice for the additional care and compassion they provided Betty. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Burial service will be at 1:00 PM at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene, Memphis, Tennessee.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MemphisFuneralPoplar.com for the Walton family.
