A lifelong resident of Memphis, Carolyn most recently lived at Kirby Pines Retirement Community. Through the years, she attended Buntyn Street Baptist Church, Southmoor Baptist Church, and most recently Ridgeway Baptist Church. She loved her work as a teacher in Ridgeway’s Preschool program for many years.
Carolyn is survived by her four children Shirley, Dale (Becky), Diane (Richard), and Anita (Bob); six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; her sister Helen Jones; her sisters-in-law Peggy Singleton and Mary Martin; and a number of nieces and nephews across the country.
Carolyn devoted her life mostly to her husband and her four children and their families. She loved and was dearly loved back. As a gift to her children, she wrote her life story when she turned sixty and updated it for them every ten years. Her memories and stories will live on and inspire them for years to come. In her written memories, Carolyn said “Whether I was a wife, mother, sister, teacher, or just a friend, my purpose in life was to serve others – and in so doing, I was serving the Lord.”
With her passing, a new chapter has begun. This earth has lost an angel but Jesus has welcomed her to Heaven. The family will not be able to receive friends at this time due to the Covid restrictions but will have a private service instead. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of your choice in Carolyn’s memory.
