

Celeste Hardy Wray, a native daughter of Memphis, died at Methodist Hospice at 4:08 pm on September 15, 2016 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Harmon L. Wray, Sr. and by her son and core of her heart, Harmon L. Wray, Jr. She is survived by Madeline B. Garr (Tony), Megan Garr and Anna Garr, treasured as granddaughters; Murray Hudson (Mary Stuart), Duncan and Mac Hudson, loved as grandsons; Chris Hardy (Verbianne), Hugo Lagos (Martha), Andres, Daniella, and Emanuel; and countless friends across the years and from many walks of life. After the death of her husband, Celeste dedicated her life to service by volunteering at Methodist Hospice, St. John's Midtown Methodist, the Church Health Center, Prison Ministry, Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, and for all other causes for peace and justice. Her boundless love for others was a gift to any and all that knew her, learned from her, and loved her in return. Private graveside services will be held at Memphis Memory Gardens on Monday, September 19, 2016. A celebration of her life will be held at St. John's Methodist Church, 1207 Peabody Ave November 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to one of the following: St. John's Methodist Church, the Church Health Center, Caritas Village, Prison Visitation and Support, or Manna House.
