

Clyde Thomas May, Sr., 92, of Memphis, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 20th, 2016. Mr. May was preceded in death by his loving wife Barnie Lou Adams May, seven brothers and three sisters. Mr. May is survived by his children, Clyde T. May, Jr. (Rose), Luanne May Cox (George), Mary Jane May Dacus (Ronnie), six beautiful granddaughters, Traci, Shelly, Sara, Emily, Anna, Ashleigh, seven beautiful great-grandchildren, and a brother Kermit May.
Mr. May retired from VA Hospital after 42 years of service. He was a strong and loving husband, father and friend. Clyde served in the US Navy in WWII in the Pacific Theater. He served on the U.S.S. Dewey and the U.S.S. John Land. He survived Typhoon Cobra, the worst typhoon in naval history, on December 18th, 1944. Clyde earned one Silver Service Star and three Bronze Service Stars. He participated in eight major Pacific battles, including Iwo Jima. He also participated in the Philippines Liberation. He was a member of Audubon Park Baptist Church, and served as a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 40. He was also a 50 year Mason.
The family cordially invites friends to share remembrances of Mr. May on Friday, December 23rd from twelve o’clock in the afternoon until the time of the funeral service at two o’clock in the afternoon at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The Rite of Committal will commence on Friday, December 30th, 2016 at 10:45 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in memory of Mr. May to Forever Young Senior Veterans, PO Box 1381, Collierville, TN. 38027 or www.foreveryoungvets.org. The Forever Young organization honors WWII, Korea, and Vietnam Veterans.
