Connie K. Altman
Connie (Grypp) Altman, 68, died on August 1, 2022, with her family by her side at her home in Memphis, TN. Connie was born on August 29, 1953, to Walter and Margaret Grypp in Geneseo, IL.
She spent her childhood on a farm outside of Annawan and found great joy in the outdoors. Her love of nature continued throughout her life. Connie graduated from Annawan High School and attended Western Illinois University receiving a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English. It was here that she met her future husband, Richard Altman. They married on May 8, 1976 in Annawan, IL, and moved to the Chicagoland area. She began working in the publishing industry as a proofreader and advanced to the position of editor.
Over her life, Connie had a great passion for dogs and aided in the caring, fostering, and placement of neglected and abandoned dogs. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tilling the soil. She was an active member of World Wide Marriage Encounter where she provided communication skills and spirituality to married couples through her life experiences. When not volunteering, Connie loved to curl up with a good book. Above all, God and her family were her top priorities. She was so proud and happy to be a “Mom” to many around her, including her relations and those in need.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard Altman of Memphis, TN; two sons and their spouses, Adam & Stephanie Altman of Bartlett, TN, Nate & Rosella Altman of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Katie & Quinn Altman, of Elk Grove Village, IL, and Francesca Barczak of Bartlett, TN.
A funeral Mass will be held in Annawan, IL on August 19, 2022. In keeping with Connie’s love of animals, any donations in her honor should to be sent to the ASPCA or a local Humane Society.
