

Darrell was born to Calvin and Daisy Johnson of Booneville, Mississippi in 1934. In 1968 Mr. Johnson founded Delta Services providing expert water blasting and industrial cleaning services to Midsouth industries and beyond.
A sixty year member of Memphis First Assembly of God church on Walnut Grove, Darrell applied his business experiences and money building churches in third world countries around the world. He joined men from his and other Assembly of God churches to provide these donated houses of worship. Often projects began on Monday, finished on Saturday, and were occupied and dedicated that coming Sunday. After one week, he routinely joined his all-volunteer crew returning home on Monday.
Darrell, known for his 6’ 8” height, was seen and loved by his many friends as a gentle giant. His humor, business disciplines, church relationships, family and friends defined his priorities and focus. Those who travelled and worked with him will find a large hole to fill duplicating his skills, passion and craftsmanship.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty; son, Jeffrey and his wife, Chantal; grandson, Avery; sister, Ramelle Sewell of Wells Point, Texas; two brothers, Dudley (Glenda) Johnson of Collierville, Tennessee and Jack (Deanna) Johnson of Eads, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 22 from 9:30 a.m. until service time of 11:00 a.m., funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.; all at the First Assembly of God Church, 8650 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, that gifts in memory of Mr. Johnson be made to Global University through the Memphis First Assembly of God. This world class home study provides information and inspiration to church leaders around the world responsible for training thousands of men and women whom disseminate the Good News of the Gospel. Global University is the largest religious distance education organization in the world.
Darrell was passionate about his family, his church, his workplace and his associates and friends with whom he worked.
