David Calvin Ashworth, age 75, passed away peacefully at his brother's home on June 7, 2025. Born May 31, 1950, he was the beloved son of the late Ruby Ann (Thompson) Ashworth and John Wesley Ashworth Jr.
David proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, and was a dedicated member of Teamsters Local 984. Known for his love of golf, David often enjoyed time on the greens, sharing stories and laughter with friends. He cherished simple pleasures, whether sipping coffee in good company or expanding his extensive firearm collection, which he maintained with pride.
For many years, David called the Mendenwood Apartments home, becoming a familiar presence within the community. His warm smile and genuine camaraderie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Martha Yvonne ‘Bonnie’ (Ashworth) Porbeck and Carol Ann Ashworth, and his brother, John Wesley Ashworth III, who will carry forward his memory with affection and respect.
Family and friends will be invited later to gather in celebration of David’s life, recalling treasured memories and moments shared. His spirit of kindness, friendship, and dedication will live on in those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family Funeral Care, Memphis has charge. A graveside ceremony with military funeral honors will be held at a later date.
A quote by author Hunter S. Thompson hung on a plaque in David’s home. It is a quote by which David lived his life:
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’”
