Born on June 29, 1946, he was the second of four sons. He graduated from Westside High School in 1965, where he met his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Pam. An avid athlete, he attended Clarke College in Newton, Mississippi on a basketball/baseball scholarship. Shortly after graduation in 1967, David got his first and only job with Harcros Chemical Company, retiring after 55 years just before the pandemic.
David loved connecting with people, and had a gift of building and growing relationships. Those who knew him developed a deep trust in his character and integrity. David had a heart for missions, outreach and community, serving as a deacon at First Assembly of God Church, a board member of First Assembly Christian School and a board member of Memphis Union Mission for 12 years. He, along with 2 other families founded Forest Hill Community Church in Collierville and served for 12 years.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Pamela Goode and 4 children: David Eric (Jenna), Gary Allen (Deborah), Jason Emery, and Jennifer Dyan (Sean). His biggest joy was being “Grandaddy" to his 10 grandchildren~ Alex, Grace, Hayden, Jennings, Clyde, Chloe, Stella, Hudson, Sam, and Ben.
He leaves his 3 brothers, Ronald Lane (Shelia) of Dallas, TX., Gary Stephen (Marie) of Bangkok, Thailand, and John Wayne (Debra) of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and hosts of beloved nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Diane Goode.
David loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and lived life to its fullest in spite of his Parkinson’s diagnosis. His Godly example has been one of humility, integrity and graciousness. His family couldn’t be more proud to call him Brother, Husband, Dad, Uncle, and Grandaddy.
The family is forever indebted to the caring community at Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Memphis for their kindness, fellowship and care… Special gratitude to Tony and LaShelia for giving David quality of life until his final moments.
May he rest in well-deserved peace for a life well-lived.
