

Donald Vance Manning, of Memphis, born November 18, 1920, passed away March 28, 2011. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired as General Contractor and owner of A&M Better Homes. He was a big game hunter and held a record in the Boone and Crockett World Record Book for largest mule deer with most points. Mr. Manning played baseball for the Bushwah League and was drafted by Philadelphia. He was awarded trophies for Most Valuable Player and Best Batting Average "Big Red". He learned to water ski when he was 65 and continued living and enjoying life well into his late 80's. A very loving father and friend, Mr. Manning was preceded in death by his son, Donald Vance Manning, Jr. and is survived by his three daughters, Toni Manning Johnson and husband Michael, of Little Rock, AR, Jan Manning Bryant and husband Tommy, of Memphis, Faye Manning Green and husband John of Memphis; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Johnson, Gabriel Steele, Cassidy Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Van Patterson, Katherine Green and John Matthew Green and one great-grandchild, Hudson Steele. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 5-6 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. There will later be a private graveside service.
