

Doris was a Registered Nurse for 30 years working at Methodist and St. Francis Hospitals. She was a member of the Epilson Sigma Alpha Sorority and devoted many hours working with the Children’s Cripple Hospital. She was born in Gibson County December, 23, 1936 to Wilbur James Seymour and Pearl (Williams) Seymour and was raised and schooled in Gibson County. She attended Lambuth College, St Joseph Nursing School and Methodist Nursing School.
She was married to the love of her life Henry Von Sutton for 55 years. She had such a young spirit and graciously opened her homes in Whitehaven and Bartlett to so many that needed a place to stay and warm meals. She will always be cherished for hosting the annual Sutton Christmas Eve gatherings where family, friends and those that did not have family were invited to enjoy a feast and a celebration that included gifts from the floor to the ceiling for everyone. She was an avid gardener and always filled her home with beautiful flowers. She loved to entertain, cook, dance with her Henry, go to the beach and spend precious time with her family. She was also a member of the Book Club and Garden Club at Kirby Pines where she loved spending time with all of her dear friends. Her passion and calling was nursing. She loved taking care of her patients. She leaves three sons Michael James Sutton and Joseph Alan Sutton (Monica Toney) from Hollywood, CA, Franklin Garland Sutton of Memphis, TN and daughter Frances Elaine Sutton Gutt and son-in-law Thomas John Gutt of Memphis, TN. She leaves nine grandchildren Jessica Vonne Byrd Pruett (Matt), Rose Haven, MD, Joseph Alan Sutton, James Marshall Sutton and Franklin Garland Sutton of Memphis, TN, Joseph Henry Sutton, Slayde Kinris Sutton, and Shylan James Sutton of Hollywood, CA, Jeffrey Harris Byrd of Springfield, MO, Thomas Alexander Gutt of Jacksonville, FL and two great-grand children Ian William and Lily Elaine Pruett, Rose Haven, MD. She also leaves three brother-in-laws that lived with her family for an extended period of time, Paul Edward Sutton (Fresno, CA) and Cecil D. Sutton (Jeannette), and Steve Sutton of Memphis.
She is survived by her siblings, Judy Patterson of Ashland City, TN, Jean Gillum of Nashville, TN and Betty Cole (Harold) of Huntsville, Al.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Von Sutton, and her mother and father.
She leaves numerous brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends.
Family will receive friends Sunday, June 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with services Monday at 2 p.m. both at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave., Memphis, TN 38122, phone number 901-761-8000. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue.
