Dorothy Elizabeth Rast Holley (age 97) was born August 8, 1920, on Herring Hill Farm in Millington TN, and died June 25, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Sprinkles Rast Sr and Mary Virginia Clark Rast, and her husband Marshall Henry Holley and their only child Kellous Henry Holley, who died at age seventeen. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Odell Rast, Finnie Rast, Virginia Rast Steele, Frank Rast Jr, and Mary Rast Gilbert Scarborough.
In the 1800’s Dot’s family purchased Brandywine Island farming and cutting timber. When Brandywine was sold, the profits were used to buy the siblings small farms.
Dot married Marshall Henry Holley from Booneville MS. Dot and Marshall were active in Brunswick Presbyterian Church and always supported the Cumberland Presbytery and later Memphis Theological Seminary. In later years, Dorothy donated a lovely piano to Brunswick (TN) Cumberland Presbyterian Church in memory of her brother Odell Rast, Marshall and Kellous Holley.
Dorothy is survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews, many of whom accompanied her on trips all over the world, treating them generously.
Dorothy was a homemaker who loved her family, friends and neighbors, her church, gardening, reading and playing bridge. In addition, she and Marshall enjoyed fishing at their weekend retreat in Enid MS. Dorothy also regularly cooked for family hunters in Holly Springs MS.
She was the family historian along with her brother Frank Rast, Jr. She was a member of the George Wales Ellis Daughters of the Confederacy (DRC) as well as the River City Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Dorothy served on the board of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Brunswick TN, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Marshall and Kellous.
Funeral visitation will be Saturday, June 30 at Memphis Funeral Home (Poplar) at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., and then burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cumberland Presbytery, the Memphis Theological Seminary, or the donor’s choice.
