

A visitation for Dorothy Jean Jones will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Fullview Baptist Church, 7100 Memphis Arlington Rd, Bartlett, TN 38135, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Jean Jones, age 89, on February 10, 2025.
Dorothy was born on November 5, 1935, in Driver, Arkansas. She was the eldest daughter of 13 children,
growing up in Blytheville, Arkansas.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Granville Jones, USN Chief retired, who preceded her in death. Together, they were married for 50 years, building a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories. Their bond was unwavering and remains an enduring testament to their love. Dorothy was also a loving mother, sister, and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, dedicated to her family and community.
Dorothy and Granville spent most of their life raising their family in San Diego, California, where Dorothy
found deep connections, served her community, and enjoyed many years with her family. The last 8 years of her life Dorothy lived with her daughter Angela Lewis in Bartlett, Tennessee, where she received an abundance of love and care from her caregivers Brenda Houston and Linda Malone.
Dorothy was known for her warm spirit and kind heart. She was an active member of Bayview Baptist
Church in San Diego, California, where she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and a loving member of the Deacon Wives. Dorothy’s faith was central to her life, and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge and love of Christ with others. Her unwavering faith and generosity touched the lives of everyone she met, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Dorothy earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education at San Diego City Community College, and she had a deep passion for teaching. She enjoyed working with children and had a lasting impact on her students, nurturing their growth and fostering a love for learning. Dorothy found great joy in seeing her students succeed and thrive, and she remained a dedicated educator throughout her life.
One of Dorothy's greatest joys in life was fishing. Her love for being on a lake always brought a huge smile to her face. Whether casting a line or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, Dorothy treasured the moments of comfort and happiness by the water.
Dorothy was the proud mother of six children. She was preceded in death by her sons John Jones (Virgie
White), Donald Jones, and Dennis Jones (Margie Glickman Jones). She is survived by her son Ricky Jones, and her daughters Lisa Theus (William Theus), and Angela Lewis (Samuel Lewis).
Dorothy was also the proud grandmother of John Jones Jr., Roshune Bracy (Christopher), Meagan Lawrence (Renard), Spencer Marquez-Jones (Taylor), Karis Theus, Breanna Lewis, Dominique Lewis, Kyle Theus, Granville Lewis, and Corey Lewis. Additionally, she was a loving great-grandmother to Jada, Jaden, Camrin, Kennedy, Brayden and Bryson Lewis, and Brayden and Bryson Marquez-Jones.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved sisters Beatrice “Lady” Merriweather, Helen Thomas, and Lenell Lanier (Roy Lanier), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved her dearly.
In addition to her beloved family, Dorothy leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her immensely. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Fannie Davis, and other loved ones who have welcomed her into eternity with open arms.
