

Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while attending Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Evanston, Illinois, under the leadership of Reverend Joseph C. Taylor. As a young adult, her leadership changed to Revered Walter Word of Word of Hope Ministries, in Milwaukee, WI. Later in her life she joined Cornerstone Institutional Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Brodie I. Johnson, where she served faithfully as a Mother on the Mother Board.
In 1958, Dorothy Phillips married William Knox, and to that union, one son was born before William’s death. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, David Phillips and Emyrtle Yarbrough Taylor, Rev. Joseph C. Taylor, one brother, and one sister. Dorothy leaves to celebrate her life four children: Albert J. Knox, Gregory Joe Knox (special friend Vanessa), Monique Knox Gulledge (Leonard), Dianna Knox Lott (Cedric). One sister, Josephine Shaw (California). Gran Gran leaves 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Dorothy Lee Phillips attended Foster Elementary, Nichols Middle School, and graduated from Evanston Township High School, where she was a beautiful violinist. As a young adult, Dorothy moved to Milwaukee and worked countless years with the Milwaukee School System and Xerox Corporation. She later moved her family from Milwaukee to Memphis where she started working at Baptist Hospital as a dietary clerk. She retired after more than 20 years of service. Dorothy saw an opportunity to become a foster parent to several needed children in the Milwaukee area, so she moved back to Milwaukee opening her own business of Dot’s Daycare. Her love of children brought her back to Memphis to rear her great-grandchildren.
