

Douglas I. Ramsay, 65, of Germantown, TN, died May 22, 2013 at Methodist Germantown Hospital. He was born August 8, 1947, in Holyoke, MA and grew up in Holyoke and Brockton, MA. He joined the US Air Force in 1966 and served at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, TX and Osceola AFB in Osceola, WI and was a Vietnam Veteran. He married Shirley Barnd January 4, 1969. Douglas was an air traffic controller from 1970 to 1981 and a proud member of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization, He served as president of PATCO Local 504 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He leaves many friends at FedEx where he spent 24 years as an aircraft dispatcher at the Global Operations Control Center. He played on many softball teams but his passion was his backyard pool, planting flowers, the New York Yankees and New England Patriots. He is survived by his wife, Shirley and son, Robert D. Ramsay; his brother, Robert D. Ramsay (Dale) of Steger, IL and sisters, Margaret E. Moccia (Joseph) of Blackstone, MA, Debra Danski (Michael) of Venice, FL and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emadel Ramsay. A graveside service with military honors will be Wednesday, May 29, 1 p.m. at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, May 28, from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the American Red Cross or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
