Mrs. Eleanor Parchman, "Ms P to me and many others." It was such a joy to know and work with her for twenty plus years. She wasn't only a co-worker but a very dear friend. I loved talking to her about her past and how she moved foward in her  life. She was patient and kind but expected things to be done right. She was dedicated to her profession, which was obvious to us all. She was so knowledgeable in her field but more so about life in general. She loved to travel and I loved hearing about her journeys and always looked foward to her photographs that she had taken. She never wanted anyone to fuss over her but she would be the first one there if she could help you in any way. She was a very  thoughtful and caring lady. I can't remember NOT getting a birthday card from her and she loved bringing back souveniers from her many travels from all over the world. I have several pictures of Ms P and our co-workers over the years and would like to share a few that I will post today. I will miss you Ms P and your memory will stay with me always.

Eleanor Parchman will be deeply missed for all her accomplishments and credit she brought to the Clinical Laboratory Science (Med. Tech.) field. My deepest sympathy to her immediate family and friends. Janice Babcock, former Aplha Mu Tau president 1984-85, living in Milwaukee (Wauwatosa), WI.

It is a surprise to learn of Eleanor's passing.  For many years we would see each other at the national meetings of ASMT/ASCLS and of the Alpha Mu Tau gatherings. She was an impressive leader in our professional world, and now will be found whenever we look up on a starry night.

Eleanor was a person who demanded your love and respect.  I found her to be frank, pleasant, kind and loving to everyone.  I enjoyed being in her company at the annual meetings for my 39 years in ASCLS and as we traveled to meetings abroad.  My condolences to her family as they mourn their lost.

Eleanor was my supervisor for many years at Methodist Hospital. I've thought about her often after I moved from Memphis.  She instilled in all a good work ethic and insisted on accuracy in all that we did all the while being sympathetic to individual needs.   She will be missed.

Will miss Eleanor very much, she was a good friend, a marvelous Technologist and traveling companion. She always knew how to handle
every complex problem and never became flustered. Going to International Med Tech meetings with her was a lesson in networking, I was always amazed at the number of people who sought her out as friends.

Many people walk through life without realizing the blessing that they are to others. Eleanor blessed many with her wit, her professionalism and her work ethic.  We all need more Eleanors in our lives.

We will miss you Ms. Eleanor.  I always enjoyed visiting with her during ASCLS meetings.  We worked together for a long time on credentials.  My thoughts are with her family and other friends.

Miss Eleanor touched many people ( including myself and daughters) with her wit,humor,and knowledge. She will be greatly missed by all. Rest in Peace sweet Southern Lady. Prayers for Tom & Stanley during this time.

Eleanor was an amazing role model and friend! She epitomized what it means to be a professional. I was blessed to know her!

It was my extreme pleasure to converse with Eleanor at many of the ASMT & ASCLS meetings.  As a "young pup" (many, many moons ago) I was in awe of her presence (as I was with many of the distinguished memebers of the Society) and, although from afar, I held her as a mentor.  We will all miss her wonderful disposition and friendship.  God speed, Eleanor, as you embark on your heavenly journey.

Eleanor was an icon in ASMT/ASCLS remembered most recently for her capable handling of credentials at each Annual Meeting.  She was a true professional and mentored many in this profession.  My condolences to the family and my prayers during this difficult time.  Her professional family will miss her, too.

Ms. Eleanor was a professional hero of mine- she defined 'wind beneath your wings'- always there and always supportive but never seeking center stage.  She will be missed and remembered with smiles by all who knew her-

My very first national committee with ASCLS was under the caring instruction of Eleanor. She charted what no one would have believed then to be a great career, She taught me how to get things done without trampling on people. I reminded her of that many times. I already miss her.

On behalf of everyone in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, we send our condolences to Tom and Stan.  We also want to celebrate the memory of Eleanor Parchman, whose humor, intelligence and generosity touched so many over the years.

I was honored to know Eleanor Parchman for many years through my activities in ASCLS.  She was an incredibly intelligent, articulate, generous, funny woman who shared all of what she knew and believed with anyone and everyone - all to our great benefit.  We will miss her but a part of her wonderful story will live in each of us she touched.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Eleanor for over 50 years and I can truthfully say she always had a good word for everyone. She was a tireless worker for the profession and contributed so very much. I'm so sorry to learn of her passing and I will miss her very much.

Eleanor Parchman was a staunch advocate for the importance of education in the clinical laboratory sciences. Many current practitioners in our field benefited from her generosity in supporting scholarships through the Alpha Mu Tau Fraternity.

Eleanor Parchman was a long time member of ASMT (now ASCLS) who always helped with the credentialing of delegates and elections. She was respected by her peers and those of us who in the past served in ASMT leadership positions.

I was so very fortunate to have Eleanor Parchman as my friend, my mentor, teacher, and travel companion for over thirty years.  She loved to travel the world on a cruise ship, meet new people, and experience every place she could.  She was wise, generous with her knowledge, and a true friend.  She will always be missed.

Eleanor was one of the most amazing individuals I ever had the opportunity to know. It was a joy to listen to her talk about ASCLS and the profession. Her love of knowledge and laboratory science ran deep. I loved seeing and talking with her at the Northwest Medical Lab Symposium, when she joined for so many years.

I was so fortunate to be able to spend some time with her the past two summers while she was vacationing in Yachats. Her wit, sense of humor, and knowledge of so many things amazed me and provided hours of wonderful discussions.
 
Eleanor, I will miss you. Your life has been a source of inspiration to more people than you will ever know. Good bye, gracious lady, as you journey forward.

Eleanor Parchman, a good friend for 34 years, a mentor, teacher, collector of antique clocks, world traveler, Cowboys fan, historian, she loved lighthouses, Tillamook sharp cheese, and all things beautiful.
I met Eleanor in Las Vegas at the 1979 ASMT Annual Meeting when I was nominated to serve on her Credentials Committee for the meeting.  We would work together for many years on Credentials spending a great deal of time at the meetings talking and visiting the interesting places where I had never been.
This dear lady had such a positive influence in my life, sharing her love of knowledge, the world, and the beautiful things that she found in her travels that I will sorely miss her company and visits.  

Good bye my Friend, leave the pain behind and take our loving memories with you.

Eleanor Parchman has left the world of the living a poorer place for her passing, but infinitely richer for the time we were privileged to know her.  The only daughter of a lumber mill manager, she was brought up on tales of the frontier and of Pancho Villa while in Nacogdoches, Texas, and then on the proper way to be a Southern Lady by her mother when the family moved to Conway, South Carolina.  There her family and their community weathered the Great Depression; her father promising the mill hands he would keep the sawmill open and them employed for as long as he could.  He succeeded, and Eleanor learned to be of service to her community, and not just present in it
 
While finishing her Master of Science in Chemistry, she met and married her husband George Parchman. They moved to Memphis where they both had teaching positions in Biological Sciences at what was then Memphis State University.  They raised their family here in Memphis, where she lived nearly all of her adult life.  Their two sons, Tom and Stanley, survive her. 
 
Finding laboratory work more interesting than teaching, she became a Medical Laboratory Technologist.  Here in Memphis, she worked first at the VA Hospital, then at Methodist Hospital, where for several years she was the Hematology Laboratory Manager while her sons were going to college.  She was an officer in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and a member of Alpha Mu Tau Fraternity (a national fraternity whose purpose is the advancement of professionals in the clinical laboratory sciences). While working as a technologist, she was generous with sharing her knowledge colleagues old and new.  Her profession will miss her as much as her friends and her family do.   She set her standards high, and then taught those around her how to meet them.  

A memorial service will be held at Memphis Funeral Home at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN at 4pm Monday, September 23.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alpha Mu Tau Fraternity for the purpose of scholarships.
