Ella M. Rodgers, age 93, went to be with the lord on September 15, 2024. On this day she went from Labor to Reward. Born during the height of the “Great Depression” on May 30, 1931, in Memphis, TN, to Lerotha and David Webster, she was one of eight beloved siblings who shared countless cherished moments throughout their lives.
Ella embraced life with a vibrant spirit, always reflecting the joyful essence of “Vegas vibes.” She had a passion for wearing colorful hats, gardening, nurturing her plants with love, and filling her home with beauty. A dedicated member of the MBCC, Ella found great joy in singing in the choir, uplifting those around her with her beautiful voice.
Traveling was a cherished adventure for Ella, as she explored new places and created lasting memories. Known for her exceptional cooking, she loved bringing family and friends together around her table, sharing delicious meals and laughter. Ella enjoyed game nights filled with cards, puzzles, and board games, fostering connections, and creating joyful memories.
Married to Robert Lee Rodgers III, she was a devoted mother to her remaining children: Harold Leon Webster, Crystal Rodgers Porter, Sylvia Marie Robinson, and Pamela Denise Toney. Ella also cherished the memories of her children Brenda Joyce Rodgers, Anita Diane Murrell, and Robert Lee Rodgers IV, who have passed on. A loving grandmother, she played a significant role in raising many of her grandchildren, and she leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ella lived by her favorite quote: “The only thing that can beat failure is the commitment to try.” This mindset defined her life, inspiring all who knew her to embrace challenges with determination and hope.
Ella’s warmth, kindness, and quick-witted jokes and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all.
Rest in heaven, to the first love of our lives. Your light will forever shine in our hearts, and your spirit will live on in the love you shared with all of us.
A memorial service for Ella will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, 70 N Bellevue Blvd, Memphis, TN 38104.
