Born on May 4, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, Frances was the daughter of Charlie and Martha Brasell Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Martha Ann Smith; and her beloved husband, Donald Schrock.
Frances dedicated many years to serving others through her work at Briarcrest Baptist School System and NSA, where she was known for preparing her weekly “healthy” home-cooked lunches. To her family and closest friends, she was simply “Granny” a name that captured her loving, nurturing spirit.
Granny found her greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures, tending to her garden and delighting in the many birds it drew in, preparing meals that brought family and friends together, treasure-hunting at weekend estate sales, and the occasional thrill of a penny slot machine. Surrounded always by the comfort of her beloved pets, she lived with warmth, curiosity, and a love for the everyday moments that made life full.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Owen and her husband, Ray, of Pearland, Texas, and Michaelle Terhune and her husband, Tony, of Arlington, Tennessee, along with her son, Kenneth Tyler and his wife, Dianne, of Oakland, Tennessee. Frances was a proud grandmother to Sherry’s children, Trip Owen of Santa Monica, California, and Niki Owen of Pearland, Texas; to Michaelle’s children, Trevor Chesteen of Arlington, Tennessee, Colton Terhune and his wife, Hope, of Great Britain, and Payson Terhune and his wife, Cortney, of Millington, Tennessee; and to Kenneth’s son, Grant Tyler. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
