

Harold Clement Cashon, 93, of Collierville passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 28th. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marinelle Ramsey Cashon, in 1977. “Cashon,” as he was known to many of his friends and family, is survived by his daughter, Maribeth Cashon Fowlkes (Bob) of Collierville and two granddaughters, Katie Fowlkes of Memphis and Meredith Harwood (Brooks) of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by a brother, Howard Cashon, and family of Memphis. In addition, he shared a special relationship with each of his six nieces and nephews.
He was born in Dukedom, TN on February 19, 1919, the son of Herman Otho and Jesse Clement Cashon and grew up in Dresden, TN. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the 7th Armored Division Military Police Platoon and earned a Silver Star and the French Croix de Guerre for meritorious service in France in August, 1944. After serving his country, he moved to Memphis, married Marinelle in 1949 and began a 50 plus year career in men’s clothing at Phil A. Halle. In 1958, he partnered with L.C. “Doc” Wright in owning Cashon-Wright Men’s Wear and Wright Men’s Wear for a number of years. After closing his store in 1980, he continued to work until 2002 in fine men’s wear at Woolf Brothers and other stores in the Memphis area. Among his many customers over the years was E.H. “Boss” Crump who bought his special order hats from him. An avid golfer, he joined Colonial Country Club in 1959 where he remained a member and was a past president. He also served on the tournament committee for a number of years for the Memphis Invitational and the Danny Thomas/FEDEX St. Jude Golf Classic. He was raised in the Presbyterian faith and was a deacon at Eastside Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Later in life, he was a member at Asbury United Methodist and Central Church.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 1st at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue. Visitation will also be held at 1pm on Thursday, August 2nd followed by a celebration service at 2 pm at Memphis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park on Poplar Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Forever Young Senior Wish at P.O. Box 1381 in Collierville, TN 38027 which sponsors the granting of wishes for senior veterans.
