Hortense Davis Thornton age 91, a faithful Christian, died peacefully at home in Memphis, TN on May 24, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thornton; her parents, John and Pauline Mohundro Davis; two brothers, Hilmon and James Davis; and two sisters, Martha Ruth Cardwell and Helon R. Wilkinson. She is survived by two brothers, Kermit (Nancy) Davis of Tupelo and Herman Davis of Olive Branch; and sister, Grace Moore of SC. The loving mother to Robert (Ann) Thornton, Joe (Debbie) Thornton and Jamie (Wayne) Hinely; four grandchildren, Amy (Dwayne) Cox, Rozalyn Hinely, Christopher and Shannon Thornton; and three great grand girls, Maggie, Katie and Izabella Grace. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26 from five o’clock to eight o’clock in the evening. Services will be held at Highland Church of Christ on Wed., May 27 at eleven o’clock in the morning. Interment will be held following services in the Tiplersville Cemetery, Tiplersville, MS. Donations in her name may be made to Soma or to the charity of your choice.
