Jack was born in Memphis, Tennessee and at the age of 5 he had his first job walking women home from Kroger with the groceries in his wagon. At age 9, his grandfather picked him up at noon and after school daily to run his store on Lee Street alone and did other jobs in between. He would wake up before 4 am daily to deliver newspapers from Midtown to St. Joseph Hospital, delivering to every room and many houses, all of this before school. After graduating he joined the United States Air Force with secret clearance granted, his duty assignment was at Head Quarters Squadron, 66th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. He worked at the Press-Scrimitar and the Commercial Appeal for over 30 years; he was a member of the union and after much research and a lot of work he told his co-workers he would double their pensions, no one believed him and after a couple of months, he got their pensions doubled and retired the same day. He was in his early 50's and enjoyed a long retirement!
