John Alfred Whitehead of Memphis passed away October 28th. He was born in 1934 in Clarksdale, MS to Cora and James Whitehead. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Inez Whitehead.
After spending much of his career in the trucking and freight industry, John retired in 1998. Up until a couple of years ago, John enjoyed tending his huge vegetable garden at Shelby Farms, most years he had a bumper crop though there were times when the deer and birds consumed more than their share. He also enjoyed fishing and searching for treasure. Most of all John enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
John dearly loved his family, he was especially proud of his children and grandsons.
He leaves behind a daughter, Lisa Young; son, Jeff (Tracey) Whitehead; grandson, Brennen Young, grandson Sean Whitehead; sister, Alice Milem; brother, Frank Whitehead, many nieces, nephews and his dear best friend Joyce Foster.
John was a long time parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at Holy Rosary on Thursday, October 31, 2019 beginning at 10:00am followed by funeral mass at 11:00. Interment will be at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
