Joy Chandler Morgan of Cooter, Missouri, passed away November 10, 2021. A graveside service will be held at Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis, TN, at 2:00 pm Friday, November 26th under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, TN.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, James Rudolph Morgan, and children, James Ronald Morgan and Mimi Morgan McMichael. She is survived by her son Robert Morgan and his wife Jacqueline Morgan of Tuscaloosa, AL, son in law Joe McMichael of Texarkana, TX, granddaughter Elizabeth McMichael of Little Rock, AR, and grandson James McMichael of Ft. Collins, CO.
Joy lived a great deal of her life in Memphis, TN, raising her children, faithfully serving her church of St. Stephens United Methodist, and working alongside her husband, James, at Morgan Pharmacy, the family business where she and James provided prescription medicine to families with humor and an added milkshake at the soda fountain for nearly 30 years.
Joy was skilled in a variety of means. She sewed her own clothing and could whip up a spectacular meal from scraps in the kitchen cabinet. She was an avid gardener, and at one time she and James owned a nursery in Louisiana. Joy sang in the choir, played piano and the organ, played church bells, and she always had a thirst for knowledge. She read books, studied art, and tackled crossword puzzles until her final days.
Most of all Joy was a servant to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren. At retirement, she moved to Texarkana, Tx where she took care of her children, Jim and Mimi, as they were sick with Muscular Dystrophy. She spent summers with her grandson, James, and taught her granddaughter, Beth how to cook. Joy loved to always be doing something, and it was usually for someone else.
Psalms 34:14 says, "Depart from evil and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." Joy lived this verse by actively doing good and serving others all her life. Now may she have eternal peace in Heaven with our Lord Jesus and rest in peace.
