Laura was born in Harriman, Tennessee, on October 26, 1925 to the late Rev J B and Laura Greene Tallant. She lived most of her childhood in Chattanooga where her father was a pastor and associational missionary. Laura's musical ability became apparent at the young age of 5. After graduating from Chattanooga's Central High, she majored in piano at Shorter College. Before moving to Memphis, Laura lived in Adamsville, Tennessee where she reared her family and provided music education for many students. She continued to teach piano, lead in worship, and entertain throughout her life. Most recently, Laura loved playing in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel. She so enjoyed her friends and co-workers and meeting tourists from around the world.
Laura is survived by her children Cheryl Ramsey (the late Ron), Jack Fullwood (Ann), Phyllis Howell (Richard), 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepchildren Carol Kaiser, Bill Thompson, and Sue Datsun (Bob), 5 step grand children, and 4 step great grand children.
Laura's life work was serving her Lord, her family whom she dearly loved, and others through her music. She gave all the glory to God for her many gifts.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music ministries of Colonial Baptist Church and Germantown Baptist Church.
There will be a celebration of her life on Wednesday, July 5, at 2:00 at Germantown Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12-2.
