Loretta Baker Erwin (Mom) was born in Memphis, TN on December 1, 1955; she graduated from Overton High. She met David (Dad) at a party and the rest was history. Prior to having children, Mom traveled the country with our dad in a travel trailer, as free spirited as ever in the 70s.
Once she had her children, Lindsey and Jason, she officially claimed the title of Best Mom in the World. Mom was room mom and cross country/skate park mom extraordinaire, the coolest chaperone ever at literally ALL of our church and school events (special shout out to 5th quarter), driver to all the things (here’s looking at you, Adventure River) and most importantly, a champion for not only her own children, but also all of our friends. If you came through the Erwin house, you were loved and she made sure you knew it. She created such a warm and loving space for all of us; caring for people was truly her gift.
Mom went back into medical billing once we were out of school where she continued to care for others. Mom was an advocate for every patient, where she would tirelessly work with insurance companies to ensure her patients received the best coverage possible.
Once Mom retired, she doted on her grandchildren full time…going to Lolo’s house meant endless fun, smiles, and treats. We all loved our Lolo so much. She was happiness personified.
Along with being the Best Wife and Mom in the World, Mom loved watching basketball (Go Tigers Go!), Nick at Night reruns (Taxi, Happy Days, Newhart), baking (hello dolly cookies, chocolate chip pie, and banana nut bread), and listening to music (Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, and Janis Joplin). No one did Christmas (or really any holiday) better than Mom- holidays were her jam. She just rocked along making the world a better place.
She is preceded in death by her parents (Boyce and Clara Baker), her beloved brother, Scott, and our sweet Aunt Doris. She is survived by her loving husband (David), her children, Lindsey (Ike) and Jason, her grandchildren, Isaac, Emerson, Nellie, and Giselle, her best friend and cousin, Nancy, and her Aunt Lurline, among many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Our primary request is that people honor Mom’s memory by showing love and kindness to one another, as she has done for her entire life. Additionally, should you feel moved to do so, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her honor.
A Simple Gathering will be held at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122, US, on May 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
