Lt. Col. (retired) Louis A. Barre, III, 95, of Germantown, passed away November 20, 2018. He was born May 25, 1923 in New Orleans, LA to the late Louis and Anna Barre. He graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA majoring in Chemistry. He then entered the Air Force serving during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was stationed in Italy, North Africa, Washington DC, London, Nebraska, New York, Illinois, Hawaii and Duke University in North Carolina. He was the first weather forecaster for Strategic Air Command and part of the first ever around the world without landing flight. The flight was under the command of General Curtis LeMay. The aircraft was the B-50, and the flight took place March 1949. He had great talent and passion for Art and portrait painting.
While in College on a blind date he met and then married Doris Key. They were married for 70 years. After 30 years in the Air Force they settled in Aiea, Hawaii. They were in Hawaii a total of 43 years until moving to Germantown, TN.
He is survived by daughters Carol Mauceri of Newmarket, NH and Janine Tretter Carney (James) of Germantown, TN; granddaughter Kelli Tretter McLain (Mac) of Collierville, TN; and his precious great grandson Jackson Tretter McLain of Collierville, TN.
