My husband, John Manuel was born in humble beginnings on July 28, 1947, in a small village called Sembawang, Singapore. His parents were immigrants from India. There he lived his life and on August 12, 1972 we married, I was 17. And then the real beginning of my adventurous life took form with both hardships and blessings which our family is blessed with three children, Ronald, Josephine and Raymond who are here with me today. My husband worked countless hours to support our family as a firefighter in the shipyards of Singapore. Later in life as our family matured, he felt it necessary to leave Singapore to help my daughter, Josephine and her family as they moved here to Memphis. This is the first time in his life that he has actually has been on an airplane, it took him 64 years to board a flight, and when he did, he flew half way around the world. This was just last year. His family was and will always be his crown jewel. I was to join them later as I am only a few years away from retiring myself. As tears roll down my cheek, that later never came and he was peacefully called back to his heavenly father on April 27, 2012. We will miss him dearly but we know that our family is forever and we will celebrate his life.
