
Margaret Acklin LaManna “Margo”, daughter of James L. and Pearl Acklin, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at the age 93. She was the widow of George C. LaManna, former Shelby County Tax Assessor. She is preceded in death by her parents, her six brothers and sisters, her husband and her son George LaManna, Jr. Born in Humphrey, AR, she attended Arkansas A&M University in Monticello, AR. Margo was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her granddaughters lovingly called her “Woman.” She loved her family, cooking, and bridge. She was a life master bridge player spending many hours at MA Lightman Bridge Club. She also enjoyed time with her Friday and Sunday night bridge group with whom she played for 40 years. Margo is survived by her daughters Conne LaManna Manning and Margot LaManna McBride. She is also survived by her loving son-in-law, Richard L. Manning, the husband of Conne. Margo also leaves a legacy of grandchildren, including Carmen Manning Hamner and her husband Bill of Williamsburg, Virginia, Carlye Manning Togstad and her husband Eugene of Memphis, Patrick D. Drew and his wife, Kathryn of Austin, Texas, and Maggi LaManna and George LaManna of Memphis. Margo also took great pride in her lovely great-grandchildren, Sam and David Drew and Katherine Anna and Elizabeth Margaret Hamner. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. The family extends a note of special appreciation to the Sisters and Staff of Incarnate Word Retirement Community in San Antonio, TX, who cared for Margo during the past 10 years. They also wish to thank the kind people of Vitas Hospice who assisted Margo in her last months. “Woman” may be gone but will always be in our hearts. Visitors will be received from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011, and services will immediately begin at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, located at 5599 Poplar Ave. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
