

Mayo, Margaret Anne, 68, of Germantown, TN., died on November 17, 2013, at Quince Nursing Home and Rehab Center. Ms. Mayo was born in Beverly, Massachusetts. She grew up on Long Island, New York, and in Westfield, New Jersey. After graduating from Westfield Senior High School, she attended and graduated from Montpelier Junior College in Montpelier, Vermont, attended Ohio Northern University, Lima, Ohio, and graduated from Memphis State University (Univ. of Memphis) with a BA in Education.
Ms. Mayo taught elementary school in Bradenton, Florida for 4 years. Upon her return to Memphis, she was employed in the Medical Records Department of LeBonheur Children’s Hospital for several years. She then worked at St. Francis Hospital in Medical Records and the Laboratory for 18 years. Ms. Mayo was very active in the Chucalissa Chapter of the DAR. She was also a member of the Charleston, South Carolina Chapter of the Huguenot Society. She served on the Germantown Historic Commission and taught at the Literacy Council. She found great pleasure as a volunteer at all the Wonders Exhibits. As a hobby, Ms. Mayo collected stamps with a particular interest in royalty stamps. She also loved attending theater and music events.
Ms. Mayo was preceded in death by her father Hughes Mayo, Jr. and her mother Kathleen Townsend Mayo. She is survived by her sister Carolyn Mayo of Memphis; her brother Hughes Mayo III (Susan) of Melrose, MA; a niece Kathleen Mayo Sully (Ralph) of Stoneham, MA; and a nephew Hughes Mayo IV of Melrose, MA.

Memphis Funeral Home 5599 Poplar Avenue has charge. Visitation will be on Friday November 22 from 5-8 PM. The funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Chapel on Saturday November 23rd at 10 AM. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Massachusetts.
