Martha Ruth Allen, resident of Memphis, TN, formerly of Whitehaven, TN, passed away on Wednesday, July 8th 2020 at St. Francis Hospital Memphis at the age of 95 years. Martha was born on November 19th, 1924 in Whitehaven, TN. Her parents were Silas Ford Stroup and Lorena Pence Stroup. Martha graduated in 1942 from Whitehaven High School, attended secretarial school, and had a successful career in accounting.
Martha married Edwin Armour Allen on March 30th, 1951. They joined two families which included Sue Ann, Jerri Pence (Penny) and Marcia Jean. Martha and E.A. owned and operated a private pharmacy on East McLemore until 1971. Martha continued her professional career at the IRS from which she retired. After E.A.’s death in 1992, Martha continued being active with her friends and family, with Whitehaven Presbyterian and Aldersgate United Methodist Churches, and eventually in her new residence at Lutheran Village in Raleigh, TN. Due to declining health, Martha was welcomed and spent the rest of her remaining days in the home of her granddaughter Sandra Harris and Sandra’s husband David O’Neill.
Martha Ruth loved travelling not only to Mexico, Haiti, Dominican Republic and to various countries in Europe but also all over the United States. Keeping in contact with her old friends and making new ones were vital to her.
She will be sadly missed by:

And by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she was known as Mamoo:
Her grandchildren: Sandra Harris (David O’Neill), Shannon Velloff, Shelly Lee, Lydie Protet, Donat Protet (Magali), Cedric Henry (Andrea), Damien Henry (Kamila), Marcia Protet, Alexiane Henry (Emmanuel), Priscilla Protet (Jean-Marc) and Pamela Pancher (Valentin).
Her great-grandchildren: Brian Harris, Mallory Balleza (Brian), Krysten Velloff, Joshua Velloff, Tyson Lee, Dylan Lee, Anthony Protet, Lena Protet, Marion Protet, Maud Protet, Cedrinne Henry, Aeden Henry, Yan Henry, Noe Henry, Altair Protet Rateau, Oceane Marini, Eryn Vieira, Lorena De Lisi and Elea Pancher Protet.
Her great-great-grandchildren: Bowen Harris and Xaden Balleza.
Martha was sadly preceded in death by: Edwin Armour Allen (husband), John, Phillip and Cecil Stroup (brothers), Mary Elizabeth McKnett (sister), and Edwin Oliver Harris (grandson).
Martha Ruth Allen’s life was celebrated at Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, TN on July 15th, 2020. She has been laid to rest at Edmonson Chapel Cemetery in Southaven, MS with her husband.
