Martha was born on November 7, 1929 to Charles Milton Fletcher and Marie Seagle Fletcher. Preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life, Donald F. Reed, niece Linda Fletcher, and grand-niece McLean Fletcher. She is survived by her devoted son, John Reed and loving daughter Elizabeth Reed Hoskins, who provided her the best care over the last 5 years. She leaves behind her brother, Charles (Helen) Fletcher of Jackson, MS, and her grandchildren Rebecca (Ryan) Watson, Bryan Powers, and Natalie Hoskins alongside many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Martha was a proud graduate of Central High School (Class of 1947) and enjoyed keeping up with her classmates over the years. She was a lifelong member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed raising her lovely soprano voice in praise of her God. She expressed her faith in Presbyterian Women (most recently the Rebekah Circle) and as an avid volunteer.
Martha found the employment of a lifetime when she met Dr. David and Mrs. Lynda Weaver whom she worked for as an office manager and dental assistant until her “retirement” when she went on to be their house manager for countless years. She treasured their many adventures and companionship. Her children and grandchildren will forever benefit from her stash of complimentary toothbrushes.
Her favorite hobbies included reading mystery novels (and fully believed that one could never have too many unread books), collecting natural gems and rocks, unique jewelry, stamps and coins, and she was an accomplished bowler in her earlier years.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Family Funeral Care (4925 Summer Avenue. Memphis 38122) at 2pm, with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to Idlewild Presbyterian Church at 1750 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104 or a charity of your choice.
