Mary Ruth Doler, 85 passed away January 3, 2016. She was born January 28, 1930 in Savannah, TN to Joseph Thomas Couch and Gertie Mae Maddox Couch; one of twelve children! On June 2, 1951 she married the love of her life James Lowell Doler. Four years later she earned her degree from Memphis State College graduating in 1956. While her husband attended veterinary school, Ruth took a job at Auburn University to help fund her husband’s dreams. They were a team working side by side in pursuit of their goals, and in 1965 she and Lowell opened Parkway Village Animal Hospital in Memphis, TN. Here she served as CEO and Vice-President until their retirement in 1997. Ruth was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church, an avid doll collector, and a member of The Genealogy Society of America. She was a woman always on a mission and far ahead of her time. She was a loyal, loving woman, to her faith, family and country; that believed her grandchildren were perfect and could do no wrong, and thought ice cream after 10 p.m. was always a good idea.
While we mourn the loss of her physical presence we rejoice in the faithfulness of our Lord knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that we will see her again. Psalm 118:24.
Her parents, and her husband James Lowell Doler, DVM, precede her in death. She is survived by her two daughters, Ruth Ann Price (Dr. Jim Price) and Kay Ellen Hall ( Holt Hall); grandchildren, Rachel Ann Price Gondek (Mike Gondek), Josh Price, Katherine Hall Daniels (Blake Daniels), Mary Rachel Hall and Amanda Holt Hall; brothers, Elmer Joe Couch and Charles Maddox Couch and a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held this Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Independent Presbyterian Church, 4738 Walnut Grove, with visitation at the church 12pm until service time at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mrs. Doler may be offered to Westminster Academy Lowell Endowment Fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
