

Mary Laverne Kirk, was born on September 1, 1919 in Huntingdon, Tennessee and died on October 9, 2016 at the age of 97. The daughter of the late Roscoe Bates & Mandy Lee Hill, she was also preceded in death by her four siblings Ivy, Tommy, Bayliss & Lela. Mary was a homemaker who was also known for being a wonderful seamstress. She was an active member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church for many years and later joined Emmanuel Baptist Church. The family invites all to a catered gathering on Tuesday, October 11 from five o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening and funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 12 beginning at two o’clock in the afternoon all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh LaGrange Road. Bro. Timothy Binion of Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN will conduct the service. Beside her parents and siblings, Mary was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years William Edward Kirk. Mrs. Kirk is now survived by her two sons Clayton (Nancy) Kirk and Gary (Janie) Kirk; five granddaughters Cynthia Burks, Elisa Bell, Rhonda Jones, Tricia Asbridge, and Heather Pike; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
