Mavis Henderson Emerson

Mavis graduated from Shaw High School, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with love and dedication. She met her beloved husband, James Donaldson Emerson, Sr., in Greenville, Mississippi, and they married in 1957. Mavis was preceded in death by James, her loving husband of 59 years.

She leaves behind a legacy through her children, Donna Sue Emerson, James Donaldson Emerson, Jr. (Cindy), and Jerry Goodlett Emerson (Nhien). Her family includes grandchildren Justin, Brandon, Grace, James III, Bailey, Joshua, Tommy, Tuyet, Lena, and Kevin, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren.

Mavis, affectionately known as the "domino queen," enjoyed playing dominos, a hobby that brought joy to her and those around her.

Residing in Bartlett, Tennessee, Mavis will be remembered for her thrifty nature, remarkable determination and lifelong concern for others.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 2 pm - 4 pm at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. A small service will follow the visitation at 4 pm.
