I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Mildred Pearson. I met Dr. Pearson at Eastern Illinois University, and she became my mentor. Upon meeting her, we discovered that we had much in common, including our middles names. Dr. Pearson was such  a beacon of light and inspiration. Every time I saw her, she always had a smile on her face. I will forever miss Dr. Pearson, but I will never forget her.  She was a blessing from God.

I met Mildred in 2005 when I started my first assistant professor position at EIU. Mildred was in charge of new faculty orientation and she made it such a warm and welcoming experience. Plus she managed to get nearly every business in town to give us something free or a really good coupon! That was so helpful to have just starting g my career like that. She was smart and thoughtful like that. I always loved running into her around campus because she was positive - and so authentically Mildred. She will always hold a special place in my heart. My condolences to her family.

I worked with Dr Pearson when she was rebuilding the university's Faculty Development office. Her energy, her passion, and her love of life were undeniable and unparalleled. She will be missed.

Dr. Pearson, Mildred, was a brilliant light while in her earthly role. Her spirit emanated widely and she had a great love and respect for her expertise. As a new faculty member, I sought her input regarding our collective work. We talked shop and laughed at the same time. She was incredibly smart, yet a down to earth family-oriented sister! Her style was tip top from head to toe and her interest in my experiences as an African American woman in academe were genuine and caring. She wanted me to succeed!

To God be the glory as her spirit has entered eternity. My heart is heavy and I extend wishes of strength and healing to the family. Please know that she is forever and her presence remains in the hearts of many. 

Mildred was so full of life and put so much positive energy into the world.   What a legacy of love❣️  But sad loss for all of us whose lives she touched.  

Dr. Pearson was one of a kind, with determination to make her mark in this world.  And she certainly did just that! I feel blessed to have known her during her time at EIU. I'll never forget her. 

I pray for her friends and family to feel God's peace and comfort during this difficult time. I hold you close in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so saddened to hear this news. Mildred was someone who I and many others called friend.  Her smile lit up a room, hallway or office. Please know she did BIG things here on campus and in our community. Mildred was someone who changed so many lives. I will be praying for comfort and peace for all of you during this difficult time. Sending Mildred's family and friends my deep condolences for their loss.   Mildred was a wonderful colleague and professor and a tireless advocate for her students.  I felt especially connected to her as a fellow Memphian. While she was at EIU, she spoke often of her family in Tennessee and had been eager to return home upon retirement.   Mildred made a difference in this world with her rare spirit, her sense of humor, and her warm smile.  

I am beyond shocked to hear of this news. Dr Pearson was a friend and mentor. In fact, she was the person that my children's school would call if they couldn't get a hold of me. We spoke for endless hours, went on weekends in Chicago together, laughed together, cried together.  Dr Pearson cared about education, and children. A strong advocate against bullying, she spearheaded an annual conference to teach others about the atrocities of bullying, and the importance of adopting an anti-bullying culture. She was loved and respected by many, she inspired many more. She did everything with grand style.  I still find it hard to read of a spirit so full of life, so vibrant has been cut short. May your beautiful light live in the lives of those you've touched forever. Hope you get to reunite with your love.

Mildred was a joyful, exuberant human being whose spirit was so uplifting to me and everyone who knew her. I never crossed paths with her where I didn't walk away feeling better about the world. Her smile lit up every room and often cheered me in the hallway when we would holler with delight at the mere sight of one another. Her excitement for education, inclusiveness, and mentoring was contagious, and in fact, she inspired me to be a better professor and human being. 
I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. Mildred was so loved and celebrated. She touched the lives of so many individuals, from children in schools to the adults who work with them. May  you be comforted with the knowledge of her deep and lasting positive impact on her profession and everyone around her. She was cherished and will be deeply missed.

Dr. Pearson changed the lives of many students at EIU and shared her joy and friendship with the faculty and staff.  We are sorry to hear of her passing.

Dr. Mildred Pearson was a very intelligent and loving person! She was a strong woman and I admired her for that! I am so blessed to have known her! She was my 8th grade English teacher at Rogers Middle School in Spencer, Oklahoma! She also allowed me to be her teacher's aide during that year! She introduced me to one of my best friends for life!! Dr. Pearson had a love for people! God really used her in a mighty way. I remember we last spoke about 5 years ago she gave me encouragement! She will truly be missed.. Love you Mrs. "P".. Rest well!!!
