Mrs. Williams was the daughter of Albert M. Perry and Lillian Lee Perry, and the granddaugher of former Memphis Chief of Police, Will D. Lee. She was educated at Vollentine Elementary, Snowden Junior High and Central High School. She attended Memphis State University, was a member of Delta Zeta, and graduated in 1961 with a B.S. degree in elementary education.
Mrs. Williams’s two great passions were the education of young people and the caring of her family. Upon graduation, she began teaching at Ellendale Elementary School. She then established Frayser Heights Elementary School in 1963 and served as its first principal.
She then turned her attention to her family. The death in infancy of her first child, William Robert Williams, Jr., only increased her love and devotion to her daughter, Anne Perry Williams (Muller), and sons Lee Taylor Williams and Scott Alexander Williams.
She was also an accomplished realtor, first with Hildebrand
Realty, then Dan Stewart Realty, and finally with Crye-Leike, where she was a member of the Million Dollar Sales club.
Years of holiday celebrations and birthdays brought joy that was only exceeded by the births of her long-desired grandchildren: Lillian Lee Muller, and twins Mitchell Williams Muller and Matthew Davidson Muller.
Mrs. Williams was a lifelong Methodist: at First Methodist of Memphis, then Weslyan Hills, then Germantown United Methodist Church. She leaves countless devoted friends at each church.
She was preceded in death by her mother Lillian, her father Albert, and her son Robert. Besides her children and grandchildren, she leaves a son-in-law, Thayne Davidson Muller; a cousin, Bettye Jo Powell of Henderson, TN; her cousin, Laurie Burnes of Germantown; and many cousins in Mississippi, most notably Norris Vest of Greenville, MS. Her cousin, Rev. Jeffery Powell, also of Henderson, will officiate her memorial service.
Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar, Tuesday, February 24, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will also be at Memphis Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with interment following in Memorial Park.
The family gratefully requests that memorials be made to the Church Health Center, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
