Dr. Richard D. Miller

The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on January 17th, 2018 at Memphis Funeral Home at Poplar and I-240. Visitation will be held at 1 PM on January 17th, 2018 at the same location. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Dr. Miller was born in Henderson, Texas on December 30th, 1931.

He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, the spring of 1957. His internship was at the Atlanta Medical Center (1957-58). He trained for two years with general surgery at the University of Tennessee and his residency in urology at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee (1959-62). He was certified by the American Board of Urology and practiced medicine in Tennessee and Arkansas.

He served in the United States Navy Reserve as a lieutenant. Dr. Miller is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra McCollum Miller. He is survived by his four children, Cole Miller (Letitia), Richard Miller Jr. (Diane), Thomas Hardy Miller (Mikki), and Melanie South (Tim); his 6 grandchildren: Heath, Tyler, Jacob, Cori, Savannah, and Caleb and one great granddaughter, Sadie. And his brother, Rear Admiral Joseph H. Miller, M.D., (Cathy). Dr. Miller is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Joe Hardy Miller, Sr. and Leta Elsie. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be offered to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Bellevue Baptist Church.
