Joe was a Southern Gentleman. Born in a wrong era. We had many fun times in our late teens and early 20's. I'll always remember you along with many friends from BHS.

Joe was one of the most interesting people I have ever known. He had the most quirky and delightful sense of humor. Joe would have a twinkle in his eye, yet at the same time he could give you a very serious response to something that made you not know WHAT to believe. 

Freshman year, Joe, myself and my friend, Susan Agee, and I had a running gag about the contents of our lockers (I seem to recall doughnut fundraisers were involved). Joe always managed to add his flavor of humor and keep us laughing about it for hours.

Many people didn't know that how incredibly intelligent Joe was...and that he was a philosopher at heart. He could quote Shakespeare even before ever required to read it in school (just reading for fun). Joe memorized the models and detailed specs of virtually all military aircraft and could dispense this info on demand. I remember Joe introduced me to Monty Python and their Holy Grail movie, which has always been one of my lifelong favorites. He is someone you could talk to for hours...about something, about nothing...he just enjoyed the art of conversation. Joe and I did not always agree on everything, but he was always a gentleman. Being "couth" was something he strove for. 

Tammi, Joe's sister, was one of my best friends in high school and their mom, Margie, was like a mom to me in high school. She was an incredible woman who helped me through the trials and growing pains of teenage years. Their family meant a lot to me for those years. Not sure I would have survived without them.

The last time I saw Joe was the night before I moved to Texas in 1989. We had a wonderful long talk. but I never thought that would be the last time I saw him. I am sorry his life ended too soon.

When our classmate Dana texted me about the news of Joe passing, I felt a sense of loss as if he was part of my own family.
I didn't get to see Joe regularly just the reunions but he greeted me and everyone as if we just saw each other the day before.
Joe has left us all too soon, but I'm sure he is looking down and watching over us as he did most of his live on earth.
Some of the finest memories I have were with Joe in small engine & auto shop classes where spent most of our time just talking.
One of his most memorable quotes when Joe & I worked at Stuckey's on Witten Rd pumping gas, was that every car from TX that came to get gas used a Texaco credit card, and he said to me " It must be god given right that every man, woman & child in TX is issued a Texaco gas credit card"
God Speed my good friend you have left a huge void here but  I know you have filled the heavens with your wonderful soul.


Joe was a lifelong buddy and friend. Although it’s been 30 years since I had seen him my heart hurts for his family and friends and of course Joe as he loved life. 

My friendship started in the 3rd grade,  he was my buddy. We hung out at lunch, at recess and played youth football together. Through our youth   He spent many a days and nights with my family as anyone could imagine Talking and playing southern history and war. Joe was a historian and proud of his heritage. I was with Joe when he brought a homemade bazooka to 5 th grade show in tell. It was a simpler time so teachers just took it from him and said you can’t bring that to a school. He meant no harm obviously, he was just fascinated with the history of war. By the way it didn’t actually work. 

Joe,  myself and my  brother spent countless hours in the woods On a lake and made a civil war submarine that he got in, lol. Kinda like the ones used in the civil war.  Quite the imagination!

After l left Bartlett, Joe and my brother spent a lot of time together, at the fraternity, hanging out and we’re just great friends. Joe was just as you saw him, a caring gentle giant. He had a heart of gold and was admired by all who got to know him. Rest In Peace my brother, you made the World a better place! Thank you for your friendship and kindness Joe. You were gold!

I don't know where to begin. I met Jed when we worked at Up the Street in the early 90's and I loved him with my whole heart. Jed & I spent many Saturdays at the flea market and probably more time at buffet restaurants!! He always looked out for me and was one of my dearest friends though our lives eventually went in different directions...and he moved north of the Mason Dixon line! Oh, how I teased him for that. We stayed in touch, often speaking a few times a year to catch up, and I got the impression that Jed didn't want me to see him. I knew his health was poor but somehow didn't expect this news. I haven't spoken with Jed in a while and, honestly, I am consumed with guilt. However, every call we had ended with "I love you" and I hope he knew how much he was loved by me and so many others. My love to Jed's daughter, Bonnie, and his family as you grieve the loss of our gentle giant.

Rest, my friend...for you have earned it. I love you.

Uncle Joe We had so many good memories. From the time I can remember you were always fun to be around and had the best stories to tell. You never met a stranger and everywhere we went you knew people. Your friends We’re everywhere. I never once heard you say anything bad about anyone.  You We’re one of the kindest and most well mannered men I’ve ever known. I’ve seen so many memories about you and how you called people weekly , you sent out cards to let people know you were thinking of them or checking up on them. I will miss our sweet , funny , crazy stories we shared with each other. It was so hard deciding who was  wrong or bad between you and Tammi’s child hood stories.  Both of you were so convincing. Your sweet laugh and that  twinkle in your eyes when you would start laughing will be missed most. Also you always answered the phone hello Doll or hey sweetie. Most of all you made everyone feel special , so loved, and like Everyone was your favorite person. My kids had so much fun being around and they are going to miss all the good times y’all had and all good laughs. Uncle Joe you will be missed because there was truly only one southern gentleman like you. Love you till we meet again. 

My dear sweet friend I will never forget the first time I met you in High School and you scared me in the cafeteria with Jello and whipped cream.
We became good friends and I will always remember our drive to the road of a lifetime and of course the bottle rockets in the water and spending time with all of the friends we shared...
You were always a gentle giant that was a friend to alot of people and we will miss you until we meet again my friend.

Jed was a faithful fraternity brother  of the Gamma Gamma chapter of  Kappa Alpha order . Jed was loved as a beloved brother and gained many friends though the order 

I’ll never forget the stories , memories, and trips that we shared 

Jed will never be forgotten and our chapter sends prayers to his family

Joe always reminded me of a big teddy bear. He was always so laid back and easygoing, and had a slow, Southern drawl to his voice that instantly put people at ease. Joe didn't smile much, but he was surprisingly funny. I fell in love with his dry sense of humor and the mischievous twinkle in his eye. I was the best of friends with his sister, Tammi, but never really knew Joe very well. I always wished I had though. Joe was a true Southern gentleman, always so polite and mannerly. I will always remember this gentle giant. Every memory I have of him makes me smile. He will always be in my heart and I'm so thankful that God allowed our paths to cross. Joe was truly a blessing from above. I'm so sorry Joe's family and the world has lost such a beautiful soul. 

I didn't know Joseph personally and am so sorry to hear of his passing. It is comforting to know that he knew the Lord and is resting now in His loving arms.  His sister, Tammi is one of my best friends and if he was  as sweet as she is, he was a special person.  Our thoughts and prayers are for the family at this time.  This world is not our home, we are only passing through.................


Gonna miss you Joe. Loved having you as a friend. And I loved the way you had my back in high school. You did me the honor of watching after Loretta after I graduated and I thank you for that. We’ve had quite a few memories where your name came up in conversation.  Your absence will leave a big gaping hole in society that will be hard to fill.   All your friends loved you and that , my friend is a great legacy!

God speed Joe.  I loved your friendship and the calls and cards over the years.  You will be missed by many!!!!!!

Joe and I always played around in French class. I would run into his big strong arms and pretend to be a southerner bell in distress. We had so much fun together. He was always a true southern gentleman. He will be sorely missed,  and fondly remembered. RIP Joe
