Bob was raised in Memphis. He graduated from Memphis Catholic School and attended Perdue University, where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, Bob worked for E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company in Charleston, WV, where he met the love of his life, Jane. After honorably serving in the army, he went to work at uncle’s construction business, J.M. O’Brien Construction Company. From 1973 -1979, he partnered with a life-long friend and formed Almac Construction in Olive Branch, MS, where they built homes. In 1980, he started his own company, McIvor Construction, where he built custom homes in the Memphis area until his retirement in 1993. Bob’s motto when bidding on a job was “If we don’t get it, we were not supposed to. God has another one just waiting,” and he was always right. Another job was just around the corner.
After his retirement, Bob could not get away from construction. He spent his time working with Habitat for Humanity, where he worked tirelessly on designing, managing work sites, and volunteering in the re-store where people referred to him as “Bob the Builder.”
He loved playing golf and going fishing on the Tennessee River, and trout fishing in the rivers in Arkansas.
He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Jane, and three sons: Robert (Carrie & Stephen), Michael (Michelle, Mia & J.C.), Tim (Suzanne, Dr. Shannon McIvor, Hillary McIvor Harris (John), Meagan & Spencer) great-grand-children Ari McIvor and Aubrey Harris. Bob was a long-time communicant of Holy Rosary Church, for 58 years.
