Robert Howard Raiford

Robert Howard Raiford, 91, of Memphis, passed away on December 26, 2015. Mr. Raiford was born in San Antonio, TX on December 1, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drury Raiford and Winnie Raiford Norfleet; his brothers, D.C. Raiford, Kelly Raiford; and his sister, Winnie Raiford Bemis. He was the loving husband of Audrey Greene Raiford to whom he was married for 64 years. Mr. Raiford attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC and later became a Baptist Minister, serving churches in both Arkansas and Tennessee. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, and he was a veteran of the Battle of Guadalcanal, and volunteered at Bougainville in the Pacific. Besides his wife, Bob leaves behind several nieces and nephews that were especially dear to him and other close family members. He wanted to express his deep appreciation to his nephew, Walter Bemis, and his sister-in-law, Sue Robinson, for all their help and caregiving during his illness. Memorial contributions may be sent to Berclair Baptist Church, 4585 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN 38122, where he was a member. The family will gather to receive friends on Tuesday, December 29, beginning at 1:00 p.m., and services will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Family Funeral Care on Summer Avenue. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue, with Military Honors.
