

Roy Murray Moore, 70, passed away following a long illness on Monday, April 1, surrounded by family members and the prayers of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife Alice and their three children Kelly (David) Groce, Natalie (Kevin) Sefers and Roy Moore II as well as two grandchildren, Charles Andrew Sefers and Emma Charlotte Groce. Also surviving are brothers Jimmy, John, Aubrey, and David as well various nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Roy died on Major League Baseball’s opening day, a day that he always cherished dating back to playing pickup ball games with his numerous brothers as a child. A native Memphian who left a mark on nearly all he met, Roy graduated from Kingsbury High School, attended Memphis State University and worked for 25 years at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, he served his country as a member of the Army, Air Force Reserves and National Guard over a span of 32 years. Roy was also a member of the Raleigh Optimist Club and volunteered regularly at the Target House for Saint Jude. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Family Funeral Care, located at 4925 Summer Ave. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nativity, 5955 St. Elmo Road in Bartlett. Burial will follow at West Tennessee Veterans’ Cemetery Friday, April 5 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Target House.
