

Roy Neal Osgathorpe, 84 of Memphis passed away December 5, 2014. Roy was born November 30, 1930 in Whitleyville, TN to Virgil and Vallie Osgatharp. He served in the United States Air Force and graduated from Memphis State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology. Roy also studied art at the Memphis Academy of Art. He played the banjo and helped to establish the Music Scene in the early sixties. He was one of the original founders of the Cooper-Young festival. He was an authority on comic books and old 78 music records and operated booths in almost every antique mall in Memphis. Roy was a very quiet man and he never had a negative word to say. He was a joy to be around and will be greatly miss by all who knew him. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his friends, Royal Stewart and John McIntire. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Madge Haile; and brothers, Garth Ausgotharp, Ralph Osgatharp, Joe Osgatharp and Phil Osgatharp. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 pm on Thursday, December 11 at Memphis Funeral Home on Polar Avenue. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11 am. A reception will follow the services at the funeral home.
