My father, Royal R. Stewart, Jr., passed away Monday, November 9, 2015. Dad was born January 14, 1934 in Billings, Montana, the only child of Royal Sr. and Lorna Stewart. He met the love of his life, Barbara Ellen Borberg, at Billings Senior High, and they were married 35 years until her death in 1991. They had two sons, Bruce, and me, Bryce. Dad did not want to follow his father into politics, and enrolled at Northwestern University where he earned a BA and MA in journalism. At school he was Captain of the tennis team and editor of the school newspaper. He spent most of his life as an advertising executive, but in his later years he worked as a literary agent and even hosted a radio show. He could easily start a conversation with a stranger, a trait my wife, Judy, says he passed to me. Dad never met a person or cat he didn’t like. Often seen roaming midtown with his friends John McEntire and “Little” Roy Osgathorpe, he was a fixture on the yard sale circuit, at McDonald’s and Café Eclectic. He will be missed by his granddaughters, Barbara Ellen and Emily Rose, and he loved them dearly. Neither Mom nor Dad wanted any services, they didn’t want anyone fussing over them. His remains will be buried next to my mother in Mount View Cemetery in Billings. He taught me to ride a bike, throw a baseball and how to be a good man. He was my father, my friend, and I will miss him till the end of my days. If anyone would like to do something nice for Dad, please give a donation to The House of Mews. He would be pleased. I would also like to thank the staff at SHC at St. Peter’s for taking such good care of Dad these last few months.
