

He professed his hope in Christ at an early age. He served faithfully as a deacon at Prospect C.M.E church for many years.
He was an employee with Memphis Light, Gas, and Water Division for over 40 years in Customer Service until he retired in 1995 To help support and provide for himself and family he worked hard in making sure that they was well taking care. He was an outstanding man that loved his family and would go out of his way finding places for family reunions.
On December 29, 1956, he met the love of his life Gwendolyn Lafrancis Thomas. Their lives filled with happiness and joy, until her passing on March 02. 1995. The Lord sent an Angel for him on November 16, 2019 to accompany his servant.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Lafrancis Ward, parents: Sammie Lee Ward, Sr., and Odessa Rogers Dunlap; one son, Bobby Ray Ward; siblings: Classie Dunlap Ford, Sallie Dunlap Johnson, Richard Dunlap Jr., and Lonnie Dunlap.
He also leaves to cherish his memories: one sister; Christine Campbell from Memphis, TN; four daughters; Delois Ward, Laumetris 0 Burnett (John), Jacqueline Benson all from Memphis, TN and Olivia Johnson (Otis) from Atlanta, GA; one dear aunt, Dorothy Franklin. In addition of grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives. One close dear friend, Eva Brown.
