Samuel Russell Dow Price (76) passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on May 22, 2025. Born in Chattanooga, TN on August 10, 1948, he was the younger son of William Bailey Price, Sr. and Lois Blish Dow Price. He graduated from the McCallie School in 1966, before attending the Georgia Institute of Technology on a Navy ROTC scholarship. He became a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity there at Georgia Tech. Upon graduation with a degree in industrial management, he served as an officer in the US Navy. He was a Vietnam war veteran. After his military service, Sam settled in the Memphis area and began his job as an IT programmer with Lehman-Roberts Paving Company. He worked there for nearly 35 years before retiring in 2009.
It was also in Memphis that Sam met the love of his life, Kathleen Rae Jobst. At the ripe age of 36, Sam married Kathy on July 6, 1985 in the living room of their newly purchased home in Germantown. There, they raised their family, and they still own that home today.
Sam was an avid jogger and enjoyed playing adult league soccer together with Kathy. He was a lover of music and enjoyed making personalized burnt CDs for family and close friends. More than anything, Sam loved spending time with his family and friends. He established and maintained many deep friendships from his days playing softball, playing soccer, grilling at cook-offs, playing cards, and hosting Super Bowl parties for over 40 years.
Sam was a man of faith who loved his church, where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer. He was known for his fun personality, his quick wit, his wisdom, his kindness, his generosity, and his devotion to his family, which he valued most. Sam was a faithful husband and excellent father, and he will be remembered as being a genuinely good man of great integrity.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Kathy Price of 40 years, four children, Amy, Steve (Rachel), Jamie (Mandy), and Billy (Lara), and ten grandchildren—Zoe, Drake, Olivia, Eden, Jay, Daniel, Woods, Mia, Graham, and Merrick. Sam is also survived by his brother William “Bailey” Price, Jr. (Mary Ella), and a number of extended family and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Covenant Presbyterian Church of Germantown, 2385 Riverdale Rd., Germantown, TN 38138. Visitation is at 2pm, followed by the service at 3pm. Sam will be buried at Chattanooga Memorial Park next to his parents and grandparents.
