Mrs. Shakuntala Lakhera, born on February 19, 1946 in Najibabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, passed away peacefully at her Germantown, Tennessee home on November 26, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Hari Prasad Lakhera, daughters, Monika(Shankar) and Sonika(Shailesh), and grandchildren Roshan, Ruhi, and labradoodle Cleo.
The oldest of seven siblings, being a motherly and caring figure came naturally to Shakuntala. After earning her Bachelor’s degree, she briefly worked as a teacher prior to getting married in January 1966 to Hari Prasad Lakhera. Frugal by nature, she was a lover of simple things, but at the same time, enjoyed donning her favorite saris with perfectly matched accessories on festive occasions.
Shakuntala was a devoted wife, expert homemaker, wonderful cook, and loving mother to her two daughters, Monika and Sonika. With her husband often traveling for his job, she raised her girls with utmost vigilance, discipline and nurture, imparting to them her passion for organization and cleanliness. She was a talented seamstress and knitting expert, and made several items of clothing lovingly worn by her daughters and friends.
Shakuntala will be sorely missed, but her family takes solace in her exemplary strength in her last days and her powerful simplicity. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
